Perry Valley Wins Awards
At October State Grange Convention
Perry Valley Receives Recognition
For the third time in four years, Perry Valley Grange received top honors among Granges in the state of Pennsylvania for community service. The award for 2006 was announced before some 400 Grange members attending the annual convention of the PA State Grange in Reading.
When the State Grange met in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, in October 2004, Perry Valley Grange was very much in evidence. Several awards were received by the local Grange for significant accomplishments during the past year.
The first award received was a fourth place for the organization's 2004 Open House-Community Night Report. This is an annual March event featuring a fellowship dinner and recognition of the Community Citizen Award recipient
The primary purpose for the existence of Perry Valley Grange is to serve its community. Thousands of hours and dollars are given annually by the Grange and its members to help worthy causes and needy individuals. These selfless efforts were recognized with a second place award for Community Service reports among all Granges in the state of Pennsylvania. A written narrative and pictures detailed the service projects completed during the year
During the past year, Perry Valley Grange expanded its membership and received a Grange briefcase for 11 new members.
Other local involvement at the convention included:
Dick Pennay & Doug Bonsall were Perry Valley's official voting delegates; committee assignments were Dick on the Agriculture Committee and Doug on the Good of the Order (constitution & bylaws) Committee
Bill Cameron attended the annual meeting of the State Grange Credit Union as a member of the Credit Committee
Perry County provided a group of women for the Ceres drill in the 6 th degree including our members: Linda Byers, Marge Earnest, Kathy Garrison, Nila Graybill, Renee Hetrick, Virginia Shotzberger & Mary Smith
