FFA Support
One of our Grange's members is co-advisor of the local Greenwood High School FFA Chapter. Early in 2002 we were made aware of the FFA's need to raise additional funding to send students to the National FFA convention and to finance several educational field trips. At about this same time, the Grange was planning for one of its several large public dinners and leaders were apprehensive about securing sufficient volunteers to serve 300+ guests.
What ensued is a classic “win-win” situation for both the Grange and the FFA. We are very pleased to work out an arrangement with the chapter to provide volunteers to help in the dining room with the four largest public dinners in 2003. A simple agreement was written and agreed to by both parties. For its members' help at each dinner, the chapter receives a contribution of $150 from the Grange to help them fund some of the group's upcoming activities.

4-H Member Victoria Merlina proudly exhibits the pig she raised as her
club project this year at the Perry County Fair in August. Later Perry
Valley Grange purchased the pig at the annual Livestock Sale, earning
$450 for Victoria. The pig was butchered and became two of the top
prizes in the annual raffle sponsored by the Grange to benefit FFA
programs at Newport and Greenwood High Schools.

The Grange supports students involved with livestock production through FFA and 4-H by purchasing an animal at the Perry Co. Fair livestock sale. The pig will be butchered and become two of the prizes for the Fall Fest raffle. We appreciate the willingness of Benner's Butcher Shoppe in Thompsontown to donate the butchering, cutting, wrapping, freezing and storage of the meat. In 2006 we purchased the hog owned by Fred Foose (above) shown with Renee Hetrick who did the bidding for the Grange.
