Free Thanksgiving Dinner
Between 120-175 people are served a free full-course roast turkey dinner each Thanksgiving Day by the Grange. This popular project continues to grow each year and attracts widespread community support. The dinner is provided to all who ask regardless of their personal finances. It is the only free public dinner on Thanksgiving in the vicinity of the Grange Hall so it serves an otherwise unmet physical and social need on this holiday.
The event is publicized in local newspapers, by a mailing sent to area churches and through a flyer distributed to local recipients of daily “Meals on Wheels”. Meals are delivered beginning at 11 AM for shut-ins and those unable to attend the group meal held in the Grange Hall at 12:30 PM.
Community response for this project is phenomenal. People call to offer financial contributions, to donate food, to help with preparation/serving/clean-up, to deliver meals and to transport those without transportation to and from the group meal.
